Presentation Title:
Placing trust at the heart of school improvement
Details:
Building high-quality relationships - with and between pupils, teachers, parents, and communities - lies at the core of the next stage of school improvement in a post-pandemic world. The talk will use case studies of practice and the evidence of research to explore what this really means and highlight the lessons for leaders and teachers as they seek to build back better.

I was concerned when parents were encouraged to inform Ofsted if they felt a school was not providing effective education during the pandemic. Thankfully several of our parents decided they were very happy with the provision and actually told Ofsted so- this means a lot when it is a school in special measures trying hard not to be. It does seem that trust can so easily be broken though by outside agencies.
What is your take on this?

A number of schools tell us that their relationship with their parents has been transformed during the pandemic, with both school and parents each gaining a deeper understanding of and closer partnership with the other. It is crucial for all schools, perhaps especially those in so-called special measures, to work at building and deepening the trust that underpins such a relationship. Where that exists, there would be no need to turn to an outside policeman for support. So to present that as a normal thing to do or as anything other than a very, very last resort is clearly not a helpful thing to do and unlikely to contribute to meaningful school improvement.
