Presentation Title:
Building Relationships with Students
Details:
This talk will focus on the importance of creating and building connected relationships with school children to help build their resilience and independence while taking care of their academic outcomes. Although the practical ideas presented in this talk may seem simple and obvious, they are not simplistic. We all know the importance of building relationships with others; however, this is an opportunity to serve as a reminder of how to connect with our students. This talk will contain simple, practical, down-to-earth ways for educators to connect with students.

Think about some stories that may help you connect with your students, building positive relationships. Which stories will you tell about yourself?

Next, consider an academic session you may be teaching your students. What stories could you tell them about yourself that will connect them to that particular lesson?

Finally, think about an executive skill that you would like to focus on in your classroom. Which stories could you share with your class that will help them understand more about that executive skill?

Great presentation and explanations how to build relationships with learners, by thinking about what you want them to learn and how to link stories two strategies. Do you think by linking strategies to stories students are able to gain deeper understanding?

Hi Jennesha,
I do think that by linking strategies to real-life experiences or stories, students not only gain a deeper understanding, they experience the real-ness of the strategies. They can see that the strategies are not just concepts.
Thanks for the question.
Andy
