Presentation Title:
Understanding the teenage brain and how to work it into your teaching
Details:
Human beings and our students in particular are inherently selfish (an important survival skill), understanding more about how the teenage brain works has, for me, been a game-changer. Although there is quite an array of complicated language, there are simple findings that can be used for all lessons. I will be sharing my findings from reading texts from Daniel Kahneman, Malcolm Gladwell, Steve Peters 'Chimp Brain', Nicola Morgan and Matthew Syed. Knowing and understanding how the brain works will help us as teachers to control our 'chimp brains'. More importantly, we can use this understanding to develop strategies in teaching PSE, life skills, revision, behaviour management, and intervention.
